ROCK CLIMBING FAQ
For guided trips with us, nothing—we provide all technical gear including harnesses, helmets, ropes, and belay devices. Just bring comfortable athletic clothing, closed-toe shoes (approach shoes or hiking boots work great), water, high energy snacks, and sunscreen. If you have your own climbing shoes, feel free to bring them.
No experience required for our introductory trips. We'll teach you everything you need to know including basic movement, how to use the equipment, and communication with your belayer. If you do have experience, we'll tailor routes to challenge your current skill level.
It varies by route. Rock climbing uses your whole body—legs, core, and arms—but technique matters more than raw strength. Beginners often start on easier terrain (5.5-5.7 grades) that focuses on balance and footwork. We'll match routes to your fitness level and take breaks as needed.
Multi-pitch climbing involves scaling a rock face in several rope-lengths ("pitches"), with climbers belaying each other from ledges or stances as they ascend. At the end of each pitch, the lead climber sets up an anchor at a stopping point and then belays their partner up to join them. This process is repeated until the top is reached. It's a great way to climb higher, experience more varied terrain, and get off the beaten path—it combines technical climbing skills with route finding, endurance, and often, a strong sense of teamwork.
