DETAILS & RESTRICTIONS
Beat the crowds and the heat. We open at 7:30 AM, the earliest Via Ferrata rental in town. By grabbing your gear first, you'll be on the rock while the canyon is still cool and the routes are quiet, giving you the best possible experience on the iron way.
The self-guided option is ideal for physically fit individuals who are comfortable with heights and mountain exposure. While previous climbing experience is not required, this route demands confidence, route awareness, and the ability to manage your own safety systems. If you're unsure, a guided experience is strongly recommended.
At Basecamp Ouray, Via Ferrata gear rental is open to climbers 18 years or older. Minors must be accompanied by a guardian. Adhering to the 2023 Ouray Via Ferrata regulations, we strictly follow weight limits (90lbs-265lbs/40kg-120kg) for climbers on both Upstream and Downstream Routes. Those outside these limits must hire a professional guide.

We open at 7:00 AM sharp for ice climbers. In Ouray, the early bird gets the best lines; picking up your gear at 7:00 AM ensures you're at the Ice Park entrance before the rush, maximizing your climbing time and catching the best ice conditions of the day.
Our ice climbing rentals are intended for climbers who are confident and capable using technical climbing equipment independently. Renters should understand how to properly use ice tools, crampons, harnesses, and belay systems, and be able to manage their own safety in a winter mountain environment.
Renters must be at least 18 years old, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Minors may not use rental equipment to climb in the Ouray Ice Park without direct adult supervision.
Due to limited inventory prioritized for guided trips, rental gear is available on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend calling ahead to check current availability.
