Welcome to the self guided, monitored experience of the Gold Mountain Via Ferrata. After completing an orientation course with one of our certified guides, you’ll have the freedom to enjoy this epic adventure on your own. Guides will be stationed at key locations to answer questions, provide direction, and ensure a safe adventure for all, but the route is yours to explore independently.
Requirements-
Age: 18 or older
Height/Weight: Minimum 48” and 110 lbs.
Gear: Included with the trip (Personal gear is allowed and will be inspected by staff. Does not lower price).
Prior Climbing Experience: Previous Via Ferrata climbing experience required for Self Guided. All participants must complete an orientation and pass a climbing test course prior to accessing the route.

Unguided Gold Mountain Via Ferrata FAQ

Age requirement is 10 and up, with those under 18 accompanied by an adult.

The Gold Mountain Via Ferrata was built and is operated exclusively by Basecamp Ouray. A guide is required for this unique experience.

The route consists of 12 pitches and over 1200 vertical feet of climbing.

A notable highlight is Pitch 11, "Bridge of Heaven," which features the second longest suspension bridge in the US, stretching 273 feet with nearly 200 feet of air beneath. It consists of a single overhead cable for security, handrail cables, and a 4-inch wide metal platform.

As the newest Via Ferrata route in Ouray, it offers a distinct experience with rich mining history, making it a unique attraction for visitors in the summer and fall.
