The Backcountry Extension Day is your opportunity to take everything you learned in the Intro to Ice Climbing Program and apply it to real mountain terrain. You’ll spend the day exploring remote frozen waterfalls and alpine gullies in the San Juan Mountains – an environment that rewards confidence, movement, and mindset. This guided day is designed to feel personal, immersive, and empowering, connecting your Ice Park progression to the freedom of true backcountry climbing.

Climbers who have completed the Intro to Ice Climbing Program and want to take the next step – applying their new skills on natural ice, in real mountain terrain, with the same trusted BIPOC guides.

Camp Bird Road or Dexter Creek (chosen based on conditions and group goals)

This is where the classroom meets the mountains. You’ll climb longer, move more independently, and gain perspective on what it means to be part of the broader climbing community – all while exploring some of the most beautiful winter landscapes in North America.
